چکیده

The X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) has been measured at the Co K edge in hcp-Co and R-Co compounds (R=La, Tb, Dy). The structure of the experimental XMCD spectra in the near-edge region has been observed to be highly sensitive to the magnetic environment of the absorbing site. Calculations of the XMCD have been carried out at the Co K edge in Co metal, LaCo 5 and TbCo 5 within the multiple-scattering framework including the spin-orbit coupling. In the three systems, the XMCD spectra in the near-edge region are well reproduced. The possibility to separate the local effects from those due to the neighboring atoms in the XMCD cross section makes possible a more physical understanding of the spectra. The present results emphasize the major role played by the d states of the Tb ions in the XMCD spectrum at the Co K edge in the TbCo 5 compound.

Experimental determination of the R(5d)-T(3d) hybridization in rare-earth intermetallics

We present an x-ray magnetic circular dichroism XMCD study performed at the R L2 edge in RAl2 and RT2 T=Fe,Co intermetallic compounds. By analyzing the modification of the XMCD spectra as both the rare earth and the alloyed element Al, Fe, or Co are changed in the compound, an extra contribution, XMCDT, has been identified and undoubtedly associated with the R 5d -T 3d hybridization in Fe and C...

J un 1 99 6 Multiple - Scattering Theory of X - Ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism : Implementation and Results for Iron K - edge

An implementation of the multiple-scattering approach to x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) in K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy is presented. The convergence problems due to the cluster size and the relativistic corrections are solved using an expansion of the Dirac Green function for complex energies up to the second order in 1/c. The Fermi energy is dealt with via a complex plane in...

Effect of Rare Earth Elements on the Sorption Characteristics of Nanostructured Zr-base Sinter Porous Getter Prepared by Mechanical Alloying

The effect of rare earth (RE) elements, including Ce and La, on the sorption properties of Zr-Co getters was investigated in this work. The phase evolution, microstructural characteristics of getter powders were studied by means of X-ray diffraction method, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The nanostructured Zr3Co intermetallic compound has been...

Magnetic circular dichroism in the L2,3 x-ray fluorescence of Fe and Co

the L2,3 x-ray fluorescence spectra of magnetized Fe and CO excited by circularly polarized synchrotron radiation exhibit magnetic circular dichroism. The results are compared to the energy resolved spin polarized densities of states given by first-principles calculations.
